Advisors chosen

Story told by Samuel Muren

In the development of the Onnest aquaculture project, combining and pairing different, but still leading knowledge and competencies are the key to success. Our prime focus will be sustainable and circular aquaculture where biology and fish welfare are at the core of what we do, future-proofing our products and practices for tomorrow’s consumer.

However, to enable us to do what we do best, we need advice from leading experts in several different fields as we go into the various phases of our planning and development work. Moreover, to be allowed to build our facility and operate it, we need various approvals from the local authorities complementing best practices on build, operations and HSE amongst other things.

Our immediate focus is to complete an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for our operations. This report will say something about how our activities will influence on our surroundings; what resources we use, our physical footprint and our emissions to air and water.

Simultaneously, the whole Onnest business case emerged from the desire to do better from an environmental perspective while keeping the highest standards related to fish health. For this to be more than just talking, we already now need to be aware of how our activities impact the environment and how we actively can reduce that impact as much as possible. By doing so from the start, we build a culture where this becomes natural for us in our everyday work.

Onnest has therefore performed a careful and extensive selection process of advisors that can assist us on systematising our ESG plans, helping us in the EIA work and do engineering related to the development of our facility,

For the ESG and the EIA work, Onnest has chosen to work with Rambøll, and on the property work with COWI.

We had positive and constructive dialogues with several players but decided that Rambøll and COWI were the best match with regards to expertise, and sharing the vision of what we want Onnest to be. These will now join the project group together with the architect consortium from Hovaldt and accelerate our planning phase.

Onnest have now found its home
We are doing aquaculture on land and not in the sea. The fish farming industry has taken major technological steps the last decade or so, enabling large volumes of fish to be farmed on land. By doing this, we can improve fish welfare aspects since we can control the environment the trout lives in.
