Launching of Onnest in Hirtshals, Denmark

Story told by Samuel Muren

Onnest was launched with a presentation to stakeholders in Hirtshals. Presenting and providing the framework for our venture was also Hjørring municipality and the Port of Hirtshals.

Onnest kickstarted its journey towards production of our premium trout, with an info meeting for potential suppliers and stakeholders in Hirtshals, Denmark in early August. Present, we had companies representing a wide specter of industries and businesses from technology solutions, architects and feed suppliers to banks and insurance companies.

The day started with presentations from Hjørring municipality and the Port of Hirtshals so that the audience would understand the context in which Onnest was created and will be a part of. Thereafter, a detailed presentation about Onnest was given by chairman Samuel Muren. The purpose was to deliver a better insight into the visions and missions of the Company, and to explain the fundamentals of the business idea. After lunch, all participants were taken on a bus ride to the future Onnest site, and a sightseeing around Hirtshals harbour guided by Linn Indrestrand from the Port of Hirtshals. The day was completed with a Q&A session at Hirtshals hotel where the presentation was held.

We were extremely pleased and proud to welcome such a large crowd partly in the holiday season, and we are particularly grateful to Hjørring municipality and the Port of Hirtshals for contributing with their thoughts and for the fruitful cooperation thus far. In the aftermath of the events in early August, we have held several interesting follow-up meetings giving us a better understanding of available technological solutions, but just as much about potential and alternative ideas which can be implemented and improve our ambitious goals much further.

We look forward to further detailed discussions, being even more confident that we will deliver a state-of-the-art facility, paving way for the future of aquaculture with the healthiest fish and the lowest emissions in the industry.

Advisors chosen
In the development of the Onnest aquaculture project, combining and pairing different, but still leading knowledge and competencies are the key to success. Our prime focus will be sustainable and circular aquaculture where biology and fish welfare are at the core of what we do, future-proofing our products and practices for tomorrow’s consumer.
Onnest have now found its home
We are doing aquaculture on land and not in the sea. The fish farming industry has taken major technological steps the last decade or so, enabling large volumes of fish to be farmed on land. By doing this, we can improve fish welfare aspects since we can control the environment the trout lives in.
